What you keep in your basement says a lot about the person you are. But it also matters for your well-being and peace of mind. Knowing whatโs down there and that you can access it whenever you want can transform your home into a more enjoyable space.
Storage Solutions
Storage solutions are certainly something youโll want to add to your basement. The more of these you have, the better. Whether itโs a built-in cabinet for a guest room or a gun safe, the basement should be a resource you use to keep the rest of your property clutter-free.
The nice thing about storage solutions in the basement is that you have so much space. Youโre not so worried about whether thereโs room for doors to open or if the cabinets stick out too much for your bed. You can keep the space relatively clear, even if you add rows of filing cabinets or chests of drawers you canโt keep elsewhere.
A Workbench
If you donโt have a garage, it also helps to keep a workbench in the basement. Having somewhere you can work on craft and DIY projects is enormously helpful.
Some moms, for instance, use workbenches for fixing kidsโ toys and wrapping presents in secret. Others use them to make craft products for sites like Etsy โ whatever floats your boat.
Laundry Essentials
You can also use the basement as a place to keep various laundry essentials out of the way. Again, this makes sense if you donโt have a dedicated utility or mud room. The last thing you want is piles of dirty clothes in baskets cluttering your main living space.
Laundry essentials could include all sorts of things, from linen carriers to full-blown dryers. Keeping machinery in the basement helps with noise suppression and makes it okay to set a cycle at night time (if you forget to do it during the day).
Comfy Chairs
The basement isnโt just a utilitarian space. Itโs also somewhere you can hang out (if the mood takes you). Therefore, some moms like to put comfy chairs in the room to make stays more pleasant.
Naturally, basements make fantastic dens for watching sports or movies late at night. Theyโre also an excellent place to rest late at night after a day of chores if itโs too cold to sit out on the balcony.
Attractive Dรฉcor
Plus, if youโre going to be spending time in the basement sitting down, then attractive dรฉcor also helps. Moms like sitting in beautiful surroundings, plotting their next move.
TV
Of course, no basement is complete without a TV hung on the wall. As mentioned, these are great for sports and movies.
If you want to go all out, you could invest in a projector. These shine images onto the wall, offering a larger size than a conventional screen (great for large viewings).
Connecting TVs and projectors to a professional sound system can enhance the experience further. Wiring them up through the walls (or using Bluetooth) is easy for surround sound.

and a generator (because I live in a hurricane state). ๐ We used to have a full basement with bedroom, bathroom, laundry room, living room and an extra kitchen when we lived up north. It was pretty normal. We definitely had a big TV down there. We don’t have basements here, but they are a great place for everyone to spend time and to host parties in !
I wish we had a basement. The closet is our garage. I would love basement space.
I agree withing having these in the basement. We’re still working on fixing up our basement, so hopefully we’ll get more of this soon.
The basement is often where we toss everything, but having good storage solutions down there can really make the whole house feel less cluttered and more peaceful. I like the idea of having a workbench for DIY projectsโa dedicated space to get creative and stay organized!
Thanks for sharing these brilliant ideas for basement, I’m gonna add some decorations with a workbench then. Cheers SiennyLovesDrawing
Such great tips! I imagine this could apply to bonus rooms or finished attic spaces as well for some. Love it!
Your ideas on storage solutions and comfy chairs are spot-on โ they make life so much easier and cozier! I’m definitely considering adding a workbench for DIY projects now.
This is definitely a list that we all need to ponder upon..I personally think that keeping a lively decor is so important to feel good about the place you do some work in.
These are amazing tips, if I had a garage where I live I would implant these.
I really like those storage containers. They look roomy
i can certainly use better storage solutions in my garage///
I wish I had a finished basement to be able to set up. It is good to have some guidelines when it comes to putting together a nice space.
Yes! I can’t emphasize how important it is to have a workbench. Yes, to wrapping presents in secret which I can so relate to. I always do that in the basement instead of our bedroom since there is the risk that the kids might see it.
These are great suggestions. My home doesn’t have a basement and I kind of wish it did!
I wish I had a basement! I do have a garage, so I will have to get some of these for that.
Great post! The basement essentials you listed are practical and thoughtful. I especially love the idea of having a workbench for DIY projects and comfy chairs for relaxation. The emphasis on storage solutions and laundry essentials is spot-on for keeping the house organized. Thanks for the helpful tips!
What a great use of the basement. So many times it just becomes a cluttered area.
I agree about these as well. Having the storage is really important. We just put up more shelving down in our basement not long ago, and I’m so glad we did. It is way more organized now.
These are great ideas for a basement. We don’t have a basement, but we have a bonus room for storage.
Having a basement can come in very useful. We used our previous basement for storage. I want to have one in the next home we move to that have a tv and a sofa so we can get away for everyone and chill.
A TV and a good sound system. Music helps me move and be more efficient. Also the other ideas, I can’t agree more.
These are really useful and important items to keep in the basement. Thanks for the share!
My neighbor changed an unused garage into a beautiful personal space (same concept as you describe here). I’ve been invited for tea several times there, where we chat away about nothing and everything. I think every mom needs to make these utilitarian spaces personal.
If I had a basement I would want all these in mine.
