Let’s start with Reading & Language Arts, which was our main focus when we started our homeschooling journey.

We discovered this app from our older kiddos’ private tutor Ms. Dee! Big praise goes to her for her astounding patience and phenomenal skill to redirect.The biggest takeaway is their fun stories, phonics lessons, and playful games. It helps kids stay motivated as they build important reading skills. Plus, the app adjusts to their progress, creating a personalized learning experience for them!
Overall, parents appreciate its user-friendly design and the fact that it’s completely ad-free allows kids to explore independently.
- Epic! (Free for Educators)
Why Families Love It: This digital library is packed with thousands of books, audiobooks, and read-along stories tailored to different reading levels and interests. When our son Josiah King discovered EPIC, he enjoyed discovering new books easily without asking us for help picking out his next read. We love that it also allows homeschool educators to apply for free access, making it a fantastic resource for independent and guided reading. - Starfall ABCs
Why Families Love It: Learning letters and sounds becomes an exciting journey with fun songs, interactive games, and colorful animations. We love the newest update, where each “primary focus” now has its own standalone app, making the whole experience and learning easier to navigate for young learners. It’s an excellent choice for those just starting their reading adventure.Parents appreciate that the basic version is free to use, and there is a separate app available for a paid version that offers additional features.

Why Families Love It: This app introduces sight words in a stress-free way through interactive puzzles and lively animations. Kids enjoy engaging with the app while reinforcing word recognition. While extra content is available for purchase, the free version provides a strong foundation for early readers.

Since then, we’ve learned that they offer educational shows on PBS Kids and Amazon Kids+, as well as educational games through PBS Kids Games. We lvoe that the app is constantly updated and kids explore science through engaging games featuring beloved PBS characters. Whether learning about space, nature, or engineering, this app provides a safe, ad-free environment that parents trust. - Toca Nature
Why Families Love It: This creative app lets kids design their own ecosystems which encourages curiosity about nature, animals, and the environment. We discovered all about the Toca Boca line when I attended a Mom 2.0 summit event. National Geographic Kids is an excellent resource! They have so many great tools on there for little ones to learn.
Wow, there are so many amazing places that parents can find resources for teaching their kids at home! This would also be great for parents who want to supplement the curriculum their kids are learning in normal school.
