Top 3 Devices Every Parent Should Put in the Nursery

New parents can easily get overwhelmed when putting together a babyโ€™s nursery room. There are hundreds of items that baby registries and stores throw at parents, claiming that each one is necessary for the babyโ€™s health and well-being. While the jury is out on whether or not you have to buy โ€œbaby-friendlyโ€ towels instead of using the ones you already have, choosing devices such as a sound machine are things that many parents swear by. Here are our TOP 3 devices that will be a fool-proof must-have on your nursery:

Devices Every Parent Should Put in the Nursery

1. Baby Monitor
Yes, you could simply sleep right outside the babyโ€™s door all night so you can be sure to hear her when she wakes up. Or, you can purchase a baby monitor and enjoy the comfort of your own bed in between late-night feedings. Baby monitors come in a variety of options, ranging from basic, noise-only tools to devices that provide you streaming video and the ability to pan the camera and see the entire room.

Many parents trust a monitor not only to alert them that the baby is awake, but also to increase child safety. You can see if the baby has her leg stuck between the slats of her crib, or, when she is older, you can use it to watch her play independently.

***big plus for the monitor that also offers a camera for real-time tracking

2. Sound Machine
There are a number of benefits of having a sound machine in the nursery. Many parents will attest that such a device is the reason their baby falls asleep every night. Sound machines provide white noise that can be incredibly soothing as baby drifts off to Dreamland. Whatโ€™s more, the gentle waves or rainforest noises can help drown out the sounds coming from elsewhere in the home, so you and the rest of the family can continue to play, watch TV or clean while baby still gets some sleep.

3. Humidifier
Unfortunately, babies do get sick, and it is no picnic when they do. There is little you can do in terms of medication to help soothe an infant with a fever or in pain. You can, however, help the situation by having a good humidifier. These devices can add much needed moisture in just a matter of moments, so you can avoid stuffy nose.

While each parent needs to decide for themselves which items to purchase and which are better left on the shelf, there are some tried-and-true devices that can help you feel better about your childโ€™s safety and well-being. These three tools can go a long way toward give you peace of mind and, perhaps, even help you sleep a little better at night.

We only had the baby monitor to start with, but we definitely had to pick up a humidifier after our first was born! My girl’s one now and we still don’t have a sound machine though – they just get to listen to our dogs barking. Lol.

This is the first time I hear of the sound machine which might actually be a good idea. Yes to humidifier and monitor.

This is such a great post and very informative too. I required also a monitor and a good humidifier to always make the air fresh.

We actually had all three in our girls rooms. We still have the humidifier and the monitor (just in case).

I had a baby monitor as well as a humidifier in my kids’ rooms when they were small. I didn’t have a sound machine though but will check into one if I’m lucky enough to have more grandkids.

I couldn’t agree more with this list. We had a baby monitor, with a camera, and it was a sanity saver!!!!

We have none of these in there though baby does sleep with us. Maybe when he sleeps in his nursery.
