I live close with my parents and I visit them regularly. I always drop by at their place to check and see if they doing ok, free from sickness and any kind of injuries. It’s my way of telling them that if there’s anything they need especially if it concerns their health and wellness, I am always ready to help.
Even though both of them are exceptionally healthy and I live few blocks away, their not so young age is becoming quite a concern for me. I once told my mom to hire someone that can accompany them 24/7 but she shied away from that idea. According to her, there’s no need for that because she is still strong and able (she does lots of exercises and does Zumba every other night) and she is not comfortable paying people just to accompany her and my father at the comfort of their own home.
I believe all the things that my mom said. In fact, I think that she’s physically stronger than me because she and my father are living a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly. This convinced me that their age is just a number and what matters most is that they’re physically and mentally healthy.
But things have changed after I heard about my friend’s story. She told me about how her mom, a super active and healthy person under 60 years old, got into an accident in her home. Her mom slips at the bathroom and couldn’t get up from that fall. That time, her dad was out doing some errands. Luckily, her sister dropped by at their parent’s home and found her mom lying on the bathroom floor with a broken hip. The most shocking part is that 2 hours has gone by before help (her sister) arrived.
This story of hers prompted me to look for ways on how I can provide my parents a round-the-clock help they may need in the event of an emergency. Since hiring someone to look for them is not an option, I encouraged them to use a medical alert system.
Just recently, I helped my parents install a Bay Alarm Medical device at their home. Bay Alarm Medical is Americas #1 rated medical alert system with trained 24/7 emergency operators ready to help in any kind of situation. It is re-assuring to know they are just a call away from medical assistance.
This life-saving device includes the main console unit, a vial of life and either a wrist unit or necklace button. A corresponding wall button and any additional buttons can come with an additional purchase.
Installing the device is so easy and we did it in less than 5 minutes. We connected the main console unit to the phone line, placed the secondary help button in the bathroom and it’s now all working! We tested the pendant/necklace button and a Bay Alarm Medical operator answered immediately through the main console and asked what kind of help we need. Since this is just the test, we told him that we are just testing things out and we are truly impressed with the immediate response.
I told my mom to always wear the wrist unit and my dad to wear the necklace as often as possible or if they are about to do activities that are quite prone to accidents like slip or fall. Since these units are water resistant, they can even wear them at the bathroom.
The Bay Alarm Medical system absolutely gave me the peace of mind knowing that my parents are just a push-button away from the help if they need. Hopefully, they won’t feel the need to push those emergency buttons.

The Bay Alarm Medical system sounds really great, I used to work in home care and many of our clients were elderly and had such systems installed as it gave us, them and their families a piece of mind should something like your friend happen.
Such a great idea. I wish this was around when my grandparents were still with us. It would have been very useful. I think its a great idea that everyone who has elderly or people they look after in their lives should get.
This would be perfect for parents living on their own. It’s nice to have this option.
I have a special needs child and I could even see the value of this with him! It would definitely alleviate some of the worry.
This looks great! I think my mother in law who is 74 needs one of these, she doesn’t want a cell phone for emergencies, so I think this is really what she needs.
I tried out the Bay Alarm product as well, and I loved the peace of mind I had for my grandma with dementia 🙂
This is such a great idea – I”m so happy something like this exists because it can give families such a peace of mind! Great post!
Sounds like a great device for emergency situations. Especially on elderly.
